We have met Trishla Talera in Boston four years ago. She is the founder and director of TIFA Working Studios, Pune India. The past summer she spent a couple months discovering Berlin art scene.
During her fellowship in Germany, she connected with art initiatives and schedule studio visits with artists interested in developing work in India. With the generous help of a curator Pierre Grenoux we have organized a presentation of projects by TIFA Working Studios for artists from our network in Lage Egal exhibition space.
TIFA Working Studios – The multi-disciplinary platform is not only a Centre for creativity and culture but also host’s international residency programmes and alternative educational initiatives.
Pune is the second largest city in the Indian state of Maharashtra, with a population comparable to Berlin. Just 3 hours away from Mumbai, Pune locks in young and international audiences with an educational offer of numerous universities and information technology centers.
TIFA connects to the historical industrial heritage of the city inviting creatives working with textiles, sculpture, architecture but also film and light. The research areas are: community, interactive practices, archives, technology, history, anthropology. But not limited by these.
The residency is situated in an art deco hotel in the middle of the old district. Just behind the building artists can find working studios located in a former warehouse. Thanks to a team of volunteers, curatorial guidance and partnerships with local enterprises none of the proposed projects is too big to be realized.
